Saaren Taika Sustainability Report 2025: Transparency and Responsibility

Saaren Taika Sustainability Report 2025: Transparency and Responsibility

Openness, progress and practical action

Sustainability guides how we develop our products, how we care for the environment and how we support the people around us. In 2025 we published our second Sustainability Report, and for the first time we follow the European Union's voluntary VSME reporting standard. We want to be open about both our progress and the areas we are still improving, because we believe transparency is part of doing this properly.

Safe and high-quality products

Our product development is based on scientific evidence and thorough testing. Every product goes through extensive safety assessments and required tests, including microbiological testing, stability testing, and both in vitro and in vivo evaluations for sun care. This helps ensure our products are effective yet gentle, even for sensitive and challenging skin, and our work is supported by strict GMP standards and regular audits of our trusted manufacturing partners.

In 2025, 63% of our cosmetic products were made at our own factory in Perniö, 66% were made in Finland, and 81% met the criteria for COSMOS-certified natural cosmetics. Many of our products carry the Finnish Key Flag Symbol, and our quality work is backed by ISO 22716 and ISO 16128 standards. We do not test on animals, and we do not use raw materials tested on animals.

A milestone year for bladderwrack

One of the highlights of 2025 was the launch of our Rakkohauru bladderwrack line. Its raw material is wild bladderwrack, hand-gathered from storm-detached seaweed along Finland's Bothnian Sea, and in our own laboratory we developed two exclusive actives from it, Fucus DuoActive® and Fucus Fusion®. It is a clear example of our commitment to in-house research, responsible sourcing and genuinely effective care for demanding skin.

Environmental responsibility as part of daily work

We continue to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. Our Perniö factory and office run on 100% renewable energy, and our own solar power system produced around 12,962 kWh of electricity in 2025. Our production is designed so that no significant waste or side streams are generated.

We calculated our greenhouse gas emissions for the second time. Our total emissions for 2025 were 124.9 t CO2e, with 93% arising from Scope 3, mainly purchased goods, packaging and customer transport. Our packaging strategy focuses on recyclability and reducing plastic, and in 2025 we used 13.7% less plastic than in 2024, favouring glass wherever possible. Our customers also recycled 5,223 packages through the Bower app.

Social responsibility and local impact

Saaren Taika is a Finnish family business built across three generations, employing around 20 people and paying its taxes in Finland. We are committed to a safe, flexible and supportive workplace. In 2025 our employee satisfaction was 4.8 out of 5, staff turnover was 0%, and we recorded zero workplace accidents. Our customer satisfaction stayed high at 91%.

Supporting our community matters to us. In 2025 we donated to Women's Line Finland, which offers free support to women, girls and their loved ones facing violence, and we supported local organisations and families in the Perniö region. For us, responsibility reaches beyond our own products.

Continuous learning and development

Sustainability is not a campaign for us. It is a way of operating. We are not aiming for perfection, but for better decisions every day. In 2025 we built the foundation for systematic sustainability work, adopted a Code of Conduct that our largest partners have committed to, and improved the clarity and transparency of our product information. This report sets the direction for our future goals.

Thank you for being part of our journey

We are grateful for every customer and partner who supports our work. Sustainability is a shared journey, and we continue to develop our practices openly, year after year. This report offers a clear look at where we are now and what we aim to build next.
